Here are some tips and tricks to a continuous shine.
Stainless steel appliances are popular kitchen and bathroom items as they are rust and corrosion resistant. However, keeping your stainless steel appliances constantly clean and shiny can take a lot of time to accomplish, especially if you don’t know how to clean them. It will be a trial and error way of doing things. And, as much as you want to keep them shiny and clean, they can hardly remain that way because of factors such as fingerprints and stains that tend to hang around the surfaces of your refrigerators, oven doors, and dishwashers.
And, although they are generally rust resistant, dust and dirt can still put them at risk of rusting if not cleaned the right away. Yes, you can buy expensive chemical cleaning products which promise to restore their shine, but these sometimes don’t live up to their promises. Well the truth of the matter is, it is not that difficult to clean your stainless steel appliances. As a matter of fact you don’t even have to buy expensive cleaning products just to make them sparkling once again. Here are simple tips and tricks to clean your stainless steel appliances.
Olive Oil and White Vinegar
Using a microfiber cloth, apply vinegar to the surface of your appliance. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe in the direction of the grain. Repeat application of vinegar until grime is removed. After that, using a clean towel, put on some olive oil and buff the surface in the direction of the grain. This technique is effective since the white vinegar can get rid of grime while the olive oil can give your appliance a shiny and fresh look.
Furniture polish using lemon oil
With just a small application of lemon oil furniture polish on a clean towel, rub on your appliance. Apply evenly and finish it up by wiping with a separate microfiber cloth towel. It is not advisable to apply the furniture polish directly to the stainless steel surface, because it may not be evenly applied and eventually can leave you with more work in cleaning the excess.
Mineral Oil or Baby Oil or Dish Soap
Dish soap is excellent in cleaning and getting rid of grime from your stainless steel appliances. It can remove excess oils and streamlines the polishing process. Apply sparingly on a clean cloth with a small amount of water to moisten and wipe along the grain. For stubborn fingerprints, repeat the process until removed. After application, wipe with a clean towel. Polish by dabbing a small amount of baby or mineral oil on a separate rag or cloth, 2 or 3 drops will do.
Glass Cleaners
Another effective way of removing fingerprints on your stainless steel is by using ordinary glass cleaner. Simply spray on a microfiber cloth and apply in a circular motion to eliminate the fingerprints. Repeat process as needed. Rinse thoroughly and dry and polish with a towel.
Warm Plain Water
The least risky means of cleaning your steel item is by just applying warm water on a lint-free cloth. After application, dry with a towel to avoid water spots. This is very crucial since minerals present in water can possibly leave deposits on your stainless steel.
It is interesting to realize that sometimes the least expensive and best way to solve a cleaning problem can be found using everyday products that are found in most homes.
