Windows to brag about
Dusty and dirty windows are an ugly sight to see and can ruin your home’s attractiveness inside and out. Over time your windows can lose their sparkle and shine and in order to bring that back is simple as it just takes a good cleaning. You can do it yourself or hire professional cleaners to do the job for you.
Invite the brilliance of your windows back into your home. If you want to revive their beauty, here are some easy and simple tips that can bring back the luster without spending too much time or money.
#1 Tip – Get rid of any dust build-up
Start off by removing your blinds or curtains before cleaning the windows. Use a dustpan brush, soft broom or cloth to get rid of any cobwebs or dust and dirt lurking on the inside and outside of the windows.
#2 Tip – Wash your window using Soapy Water
By means of a sponge, clean your windows by using warm soapy water, however minimize soapsuds. Be careful in using strong cleaning solutions on your window as it can damage the paintwork surrounding it.
#3 Tip – Use Vinegar as a window cleaning solution
If your window is greasy or unsightly with deep seated dirt that’s hard to clean just by soap alone, you may use a mixture of warm water with 2 tablespoons of vinegar in a small bucket and two tablespoons of borax or ammonia. Finish with a clean, dry cloth.
#4 Tip – Buff up
After cleaning your window, you can buff up the dry, clean glass using an old and crumpled newspaper or broadsheet. The ink from the paper can actually give your window an added sparkle and shine.
#5 Tip – Wipe off excess water
Using a clean squeegee, wipe off excess water after cleaning by starting at the upper part of the window working your way down with a reverse S pattern to get the maximum cleaning result. Repeatedly clean the squeegee blade using a clean cloth to avoid dirt from being transferred around.
#6 Tip – Wipe off using microfiber cloth
Aside from a squeegee, you may also use a microfiber cloth to wipe off any excess water from your glass window and dry the ledge under where water may have trickled down.
#7 Tip – Clean windows using detergent-bleach solution
Gray or black mildew spots on your wooden window frames can be washed by using 1 oz. of laundry detergent in 1 quart of water and 2 oz. domestic bleach. By using a sponge to dip into your cleaning solution and rubber gloves to protect your hands, dab the solution right on the affected spots and let it sit for 10 minutes. Thoroughly rinse with clean water.
#8 Tip – Deep clean your windows at least 2 times a year
Having a clean window can brighten the entire house and can give the feeling of comfort and peacefulness. It is best to deep clean your windows 2 to 3 times a year but you can wipe them regularly so that dirt and dust will not accumulate.
