Changing light fixtures in the office is often quite a challenge and one best left to professional cleaners when possible. Many light fixtures in an office are high in the ceiling, difficult to reach, and tricky to clean. For most people cleaning light fixtures in an office is a task they would prefer not to tackle. However, there are times when professionals are not available, and light fixtures need cleaning. Here are some tips that can help you if you should be the one selected to clean your office’s light fixtures.
BEFORE CLEANING CEILING LIGHT FIXTURES, BE SURE TO TURN OFF THE ELECTRICITY. LAMPS CAN BE UNPLUGGED
- If at all possible, try using a soft cleaning brush mounted on a very long pole to clean office lights that are on the ceiling. Often the careful brushing of ceiling lights will remove dust and debris.
- When light brushing does not clean ceiling lights, you will need a ladder, damp cloth (microfiber cloth works well), and a screwdriver and small pliers. It is best to have a co-worker standing by in case you slip and also to hand up tools and receive any debris you might find. Carefully climb the ladder and assess how you will remove the light fixture covers. When the covers are removed and handed down to your helper, gently wipe the bulbs and any parts of the fixture involved with the lights. Have your helper carefully wash the covers to the lights, and then you can replace them.
- Some ceiling lights are fluorescent, and the bulbs will need to be removed to be carefully cleaned. Again, this is a task best reserved for a professional.
- Some offices have desk or table lamps which will also need cleaning. These usually need only to have their shades dusted, the bulbs unscrewed and wiped with a damp cloth, and the light holders (lamps) wiped with a damp cloth.
- Sometimes when there are stubborn stains such as those left by bugs that have flown into the light, you will need to use a mild cleaner on your damp cloth.
- Finish by wiping the fixture with a clean damp cloth and drying with a soft cloth.
- Put the lights back together and plug in lamps and turn on the electricity.
